If you’re looking for somewhere to spend the day or even weekend that’s easy to get to from London by train, then here are six great places to go for day trips from London.Have a scroll, get inspired and plan your next day out!

Cambridge, Cambridgeshire

Cambridge is really easy to get to from London by train, and it’s a great place to spend the day and explore. Make sure when you visit that you go and have a look at the old colleges. Even if you don’t go in, it’s a beautiful are with so much history. Make sure you go and see King’s College Chapel, it’s absolutely beautiful and so magical on the inside. One thing I would really recommend you do on your trip is to go punting on the river. I have been twice now and I always go with ‘Traditional Punting Company’ who are very informative and fun. You see so much of the city this way and learn so much about various buildings and bridges. There are many amazing restaurants to try out around the city and some of them with great views of the water too.

Brighton, East Sussex

Everyone knows Brighton! Again, this is a really easy place to get to from London by train, taking around 1 1/2 hours. There is so much to do here all year round, in the summer. I would really recommend spending some time on the beach and doing some activities outdoors and of course you can’t miss out on having fish and chips on the beach for lunch. For when the weather isn’t on your side, though, there are plenty of things to do indoors that’ll keep you busy all day long such as the i360, Royal Pavilion, The Palace and The Pier.

Canterbury, Kent

Canterbury is a must visit! It’s such a beautiful city with so much going on. Make sure you wander around the cobbled streets, explore their independent Cafes and you definitely can’t miss out on the beautiful cathedral. This is very easy to get to from London, taking just over an hour and everything is within walking distance from the train station. However, if you’re driving down here I really recommend visiting some of the neighbouring villages as they are really beautiful and so rural, such a contrast from the busy city.

Shere, Surrey

Shere is such a gorgeous quaint village near Guilford and is perfect for those who love, countryside, pubs, cafés, and wonderful walks. If you’re living in London, this is an amazing a place to escape from the hustle and bustle, you can really unwind here and enjoy a slice of nature. There are a couple of independent shops in the village, and a really beautiful café with the most amazing coffee… a must try!

Arundel, West Sussex

Arundel is a beautiful town in West Sussex, home to lots of independent shops, restaurants and cafés with really nice shopping scene too. This town is easy to get the train to from London however, if you’re driving I would recommend spending half a day here and then venturing off into the countryside for a slice of nature, and to catch the sunset.

Sevenoaks, Kent

Sevenoaks is one of my favourite places in England! Again, this is really easy to get the train to from London, taking less than one hour. The town is really beautiful with lots of amazing shops and restaurants to explore. And within walking distance from there is Knole park, a huge park filled with wild deer. The park is free to enter on foot but if you’re not a National Trust member, you’ll have to pay if you want to park your car inside. They have a little café and garden that is open on certain days. I hope you love it here as much as I do!

Have fun exploring England!

As always, love Elise x
