How to Spend a Weekend Away in Lyme Regis

Lyme Regis is a beautiful town along the Jurassic Coast, filled with beautiful holiday homes, restaurants, cafes and independent shops. The town is very popular during the summertime and the beach quickly becomes a place for families, couples and friends to spend their day. The beach has so much to offer, such as boat trips and paddle board rentals, but best of all, it is a beautiful place to sit and watch the sunrise – trust me, it is worth the early alarm clock! The town is well known for fossil finds and you may even spot people poking through the rocks on the beach, hoping to find something special. Multiple movies have also been filmed at Lyme Regis, those including; Gulliver’s Travels, Ammonite, Persuasion and many more. Things to do in Lyme Regis

Go on a Coastal Walk

There are multiple coastal walks to go on in Lyme Regis, some of which are along the seafront, whereas others are up on the hills with the perfect mix of countryside and beach views. Even in the summer, some of these walks can be a little muddy, so pack your walking boots!

Walk from Lyme Regis to Charmouth Beach

The walk from Lyme Regis Beach to Charmouth Beach is roughly 3 miles each way, depending if you choose to walk along the beach, or take the road route (see google maps to avoid getting lost). If you choose to walk along the beach please ensure you look up tide times and take them seriously. If you get caught on the beach when the tide comes in, there is no way out as the beach is backed with mud slides.

Grab a Coffee from a Local Cafe

There are lots of little cafes in and around Lyme Regis to grab a morning coffee or stop for some breakfast or lunch. Some cafes are located along the seafront so you can enjoy coffee with a beautiful beach view.

Go on a Boat Trip

Boat trips are a must when you’re by the beach especially if you love being close to the water. You can hire boats, paddle boards, kayaks and more along the beach, or bring your own!

Visit a Museum

There are a few museums in and round Lyme Regis, which could be a good addition to a day out for the whole family.

Explore the Brewery

Lyme Regis Brewery is a small brewery right in the centre of Lyme Regis and often opens for ‘brew days’ where you can visit, watch the brewery process and taste the beers too!

Grab Dinner with a Sea-view

With countless restaurants along the seafront, enjoying dinner with a sea-view is must! Whether you’re after a fancy dining experience or would rather grab a takeaway and sit on the beach, there is plenty to choose from in Lyme Regis.

Watch the Sunrise from the Beach

Lyme Regis Beach is a beautiful place to watch the sunrise. Look up the sunrise time (available on most weather apps) and set your alarm – trust me, it’s worth it!

Where to Stay

Lyme Regis has lots of holiday homes, hotels and Airbnbs to choose from for your staycation. We stayed with Jurassic Properties who currently have 2 properties to stay in, with 3 more on the way. We stayed in the property on Coombe Street and were so impressed! The holiday home was spacious, had a full kitchen and bathroom, and two bedrooms. The property had everything we needed, which is something I really like about staying in a holiday home like this, and it was less than a minute walk from the beach – it doesn’t get better than that!

The best thing by far, is just how close this house is to the beach. It is less than a minute walk to the beach, although nicely tucked away so you’re not disrupted by any of the noise from the bars and restaurants nearby. Waking up early to watch the sunrise from the seafront is a must when staying here, and as it is so close, you can quickly get back to go back to bed or start your day with an early breakfast.
