Beautiful Picnic Spots in and Around Kent.

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll know how much I love a picnic. I look forward to sunny days, when my only objective for the day is finding a good picnic spot, laying down a pretty blanket and setting up an ‘Instagram worthy’ spread! Here are some of my favourite spots, in and around Kent.

Greatstone Beach

Greatstone Beach, part of New Romney is one of a few sandy beaches in Kent. It is similar to the popular Camber Sands, with its small sand dunes and gorgeous beach houses. This beach tends to be quieter than Camber Sands, and makes a perfect spot so soak in the sun.

Wye Downs

Wye Downs is one of my favourite spots for a picnic with a gorgeous countryside view. You can set up your picnic with incredible views and even catch the sunset here too, if you time it right!

Leeds Castle Grounds

Leeds Castle makes a perfect day out, and you can set up your picnic with a view of the mote and castle right in front of you. Please do not feed the ducks etc you sandwiches though – it could make them very unwell. With multiple cafes open too, you can always grab a coffee to go with your picnic here.

Beachy Head, Eastbourne

Beachy Head, located in Eastbourne is an amazing spot for picnickers. You get the best of both worlds here, with countryside views on coastal views on the other! It can get very windy up there though, so bare that in mind during your visit.

Mote Park

Mote Park is filled with spots to picnic in, whether you want to find a spot under the trees or by the lake – again, please don’t feed the ducks your lunch, it could make them unwell.

Box Hill, Surrey

Just outside of Kent is the gorgeous area of Box Hill. Home to gorgeous views (especially sunset views), and good walks, this is a great spot to set up a picnic.

Whitstable Beach

Whitstable is a pebble beach in the Northern area of Kent, and is known for its oysters, and stunning sunsets. Find a spot on the beach or perch on a wall for a picnic with a fresh sea breeze.

Kings Wood, Ashford

Kings Wood, located in Ashford is another great spot if you enjoy forests and nature. The car park is free but there aren’t any facilities, so make sure you bring your own.

Leybourne Lakes

Leybourne lakes – another gorgeous picnic spot. It can often get quite busy, but if you walk along around the lakes, you may find a quiet picnic spot – just keep in mind that there will be lots of dogs sniffing around for a nibble of your lunch!

Knole Park

Knole Park is my favourite place on this planet – ever. The picnic area is now contained, near the car parks and by the house. This is to stop you from feeding the deer, and please do follow this rule. No matter what food you have, please do not feed them as they are wild deer, and need to remain so.

Hedgecourt Lake

Hedgecourt Lake is a stunning (but small) lake just outside of Kent. It is surrounded by trees and looks especially beautiful in the Autumn, when the leaves turn red.

Shorne Woods Country Park

Shorne Woods Country Park is a brilliant place for a walk, with multiple routes to choose from. There are a few benches and picnic spots around the park, as well as a cafe and toilet by the car park.

Scadbury Park

Scadbury Park is another great place if you plan on incorporating walks into your trip, with 300 acres of nature! There is a lovely picnic area with wooden benches if you prefer a table, rather than a blanket on the floor.

Scotney Castle

Scotney Castle is a part of The National Trust, so if you are not a member, you will have to pay an entry fee – but it is well worth it! The house and castle is beautiful, and the gardens are very well kept.

Capstone Country Park

Capstone Country Park is a gorgeous countryside area to spend the day, go for a walk and enjoy a picnic. There are lots of fields, forest areas and a small park for the children too.

Great Stour, Canterbury

Sitting by the Great Stour river, especially in the spring or summer makes a perfect picnic spot. If you are near a boating area (such as Canterbury), you could even go punting after your picnic.

Hucking Estate

Hucking Estate is a gorgeous country park which would make a great spot for picnics, however the car park is very small, so it is best to visit at non-peak times.

Bedgebury National Pinetum and Forest

Bedgebury is a brilliant place to spend the day, with a choice of walking and cycling trails to explore. Picnics would be lovely here, in amongst the trees, but do check the car parking prices and they are known to be a little steep!

Camber Sands Beach

Camber Sands is a gorgeous sandy beach, just outside Kent, as is filled with huge sand dunes that make amazing picnic spots with even better views. I personally love this beach because you can catch both the sunrise and sunset here. This beach is very popular, and tends to get very busy especially on weekends and hot summer days.

Chilston Park Hotel Grounds

The Chilston Park is a gorgeous hotel nestled in Kent’s countryside. You can explore the grounds and take a picnic with you too.

Hever Castle

Hever Castle is another that you’ll need to pay an entrance fee for, but it is well worth it. The castle is beautiful, and the grounds are absolutely gorgeous, especially the gardens. There are huge play areas for the children and multiple spots you can stop and enjoy a picnic in.
